Okay, right off the bat, since I’ve seen this so much - I have no problem with Lucy Liu as Joan Watson. I think it’s fantastic (though privately I pine for the fancasting I saw a few months ago with Lucy Liu as Sherlock and Angel Coulby as Watson). Because Lucy Liu is awesome, and really she should be in more things.
But they changed her backstory.
Watson is an army doctor. Now, someone please correct me if I am wrong, but there are currently female army doctors with the US Army in Afghanistan.
Elementary’s Watson, meanwhile, is a disgraced surgeon who lost her medical license after a patient died.
So why the change? If someone could explain it to me, that would be fantastic, because I honestly do not understand it. Does changing her gender somehow necessitate removing her from the army? Or is there some other reason? Because the way I look at it (and I will grant that my way of looking at things is heavily reliant on sequential logic), there isn’t one.
I’ll definitely watch the first episode of Elementary when it airs. But in the meantime, I’m really confused.

This actually crossed my mind…but seeing that at the end when the reporters came in, there were no ambulances or stretchers. So I blindly assumed that the driver received a deadly shock but lived. But why did he aim for the driver and not the wheels or other parts of the car? WHY MAKO, WHY?
The shock COULD have partially diffused through out the cab and the driver only received a fraction of the lightning strike.
